Hi Bryanna,

I am planning to apply for a TRV for my mom who is in India and would want her to be here for 6 months. My questions are:
1. Can I mention the tentative travel dates requesting a visa for 6 months? I read somewhere that a TRV is issued for 10 years with multiple entry and a maximum stay of 6 months.
2. When I send the application to CiC do I need to attach a return a flight ticket or do I book the flight ticket after her visa is approved and provide the same at POE.
3. She is a housewife, so approximately how much bank balance do you think should I show to prove strong ties to her home country.
4. My sister who is married is in India. Would a letter from her help, if she states that she takes care of all her needs

Hi,

1. We don't recommend asking for a visit of 6 months as that indicates weak ties to the home country. You could consider a visit of 3-4 weeks max.

Her TRV validity will depend on the assessment made by the visa officer. It could be for any length of time going up to a maximum of passport expiry (not 10 years as such).

2. No, flight tickets are not required. You can submit provisional flight itineraries and state that confirmed tickets will be purchased when the TRV is issued.

3. Your mom must be able to prove that she can afford the visit without borrowing from anyone. Typically, this is about CAD 1,000 per week of stay (unofficial guide).

4. Your sister or your dad can support your mom's visit. S/he must provide a 'Letter of Financial' support + her/his bank statement + recent ITR

Your mom can also demonstrate her strong ties if she owns property/land or has a lease agreement in her name + financial investments (liquid or locked) + dependent family members, etc

Cheers

Hi Bryanna,

In the family information form it asks for name of all children regardless of place of residence. I am in Canada and inviting my parents so under the question 'Will accompany you to Canada?' do I say yes or no. Both would be inappropriate. Or do I leave it blank

Hi Bryanna,

We had submitted applications for my parents for TRV on 27 Sep 2017. They were submitted online in India and we have crossed the current processing timelines of 34 days but have not received any update yet.

Does an online application delay the process? Is there an email address where i could request them for a status update? Is 34 days an average timeline or is it the maximum TAT to receive a reply?

34 days is the average estimated time that it took to process 80% of TRV applications for the previous week. Actual time could take much longer.

I suggest you wait for another week or so before you email/send a Case Specific Enquiry
