Happy to share this good new we received last night.
Application through paper
Submitted via VFS Sri Lanka: January 17,2020
Received Email about the biometric validation: January 27
Email (Decision mail dispatched): Janaury 28
Approved
Visa stamped: January 29,2020.
They only give her 1.5 year visa because passport is expiring next year. Anyway, its a big blessing to finally see my mom after how many years here being a refugee and cant go back home. Goodluck !

wow. Very unusual you got lucky. You applied for asylum very recently and didn’t have much savings so normally would have been denied. You got very lucky with the visa officer you had. That is why people always say
It is worth a try since cases like this get approved out of the blue when all the rest have been denied. Not sure if you realize that although your mother has a visa for 1.5 years she can only get up to 6 months stay on arrive CBSA will determine how much time she is allowed to stay in Canada. Given your limited savings I hope you are taking out travel medical insurance. A bill for even 10k would wipe out all your family savings.

Thats true. Even I still cant believe because I tried to talk to a lawyer and said the chance is very low sinve I applied herr as a refugee. I decided to try it myself with a lesser cost.

You still haven’t crossed all the hurdles yet. CBSA could only give her a few weeks to visit on arrival given that she only has 5k to her name and perhaps less after the flight. Although many get 6 months there are also people are only given 1-2 weeks. You should still purchase a return ticket home at 4 months. Hopefully one that can be changed to either earlier or later. You will have to look at the policy being offered with the ticket. Normally it is only cancellation insurance. You will need to see whether the policy will coverage any emergency treatment in a Canada. Would suggest up to at least 100k. Many have exceeded the amount but I think it is a decent in a relatively younger person unless your MIL has health issues. The health issues would need to be declared in advance and coverage won’t be available for anything associated to the issue.
