Hi everyone, I am a Canadian/Italian citizen and my boyfriend is from Mexico. We met working on cruise ships and have been together for 3 years. I live and work in London,Uk and we are in the process of an appeal for sponsorship for him under european regulations to join me in London as my partner. Since leaving cruise ships we have travelled everywhere. He came to Canada with me with a TRV, however my sister wrote the invitation letter because I havent been working or living in Canada for years so we kept quiet about our relationship as we knew it would make getting him approved harder. After our visit to Canada I moved to London and he came with as a visitor. We travelled around during my time off and on our return back to the UK after a weekend trip to Paris, the IO refused him re-entry as they saw my passport and automatically assumed he would end up staying illegally. This was in March 2011.

We are now wanting to spend 3 weeks holiday in Toronto this summer since I am a teacher and want to return home to see my family and have my boyfriend there with me while we wait for his permit to join me in the UK, and I was wondering if that refusal to enter the UK in 2011 will have any impact on his application? He will have a return ticket back to Mexico, letter from his employer and sufficient funds to cover his holiday. And I am not sure if I should be the one to write the invitation letter explaining our situation, or have my sister do it again as we did the first time saying hes just going on holiday to visit family friends?

Thanks everyone

He was refused entry in the UK. This has nothing to do with his Canadian TRV application.

Thank you so much for your post. I was asking because on the application form under background information they ask if you have ever been refused admission or been ordered to leave Canada or any other country, so was just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation where perhaps this has impacted their application.

He will have to explain why he was refused entry and how this should not effect the decision to grant him a TRV. The fact that he previously entered and left Canada should overcome the concerns of having been refused entry into the UK.

Fantastic news, thank you! Now the question on whether I should write the invitation letter even though I dont live in Canada, and will be returning to the Uk for work in Sept, or should I have my family write a letter instead?

Any ideas how I should go about writing the invitation letter?Should I do it, or have someone in my family do it and not even mention me again like the first time?
