I am a Canadian citizen, and we have been leasing a place in Peru for 6 months now. We lived togther for 4 months from 2015-2016, before I had to return to Canada, as my tourist visa in Peru expired. It has expired again, and the control here only issued me 60 more days and said after this, no more, I have gone over my alotted time already.

I am married, but seperated, and have begun a divorce application.
I am on leave from a full time teaching job in Toronto, and will return to work.
He is Peruvian, bachelor degree, family has a few successful businesses, he speaks perfect English.

We are preparing an application for a TRV. I plan on returning to Peru, we want to get married here. I want to live in Peru in the future. It would be wonderful for him to be able to visit all my friends and family in Canada, first.

1. Obviously, we would like to apply as common-law, but it is impossible to reside together for a full year because of immigration laws and visas. Should we apply as conjugal partners? A family visit or a tourist visit?
2. Is a letter of invitation a sponsorship thing? Will I also have to fill out a sponsorship form? Or only submit the invitation letter in his application?
3. What is a good time span for a visit? Two weeks? Two months? The longer the better for us, but what will immigration think?
4. Is it worth it to get a lawyer?

Any help, stories, adivice will be appreciated!

First, your partner getting visitor's visa depend on his personal circumstance in Peru : social ties, economic ties and financial ties. He can apply even without your help for tourist visa if she has strong ties and a decent job. One other thing to consider is, it's always hard to apply for permanent residence (sponsorship) as conjugal partners. If you have the means to travel to Peru for even 10 days, why not get married? For conjugal, you will need to submit a lot of proof for sponsorship application including letters from each family or friends.
