Hello all!

I have a friend wanting to come visit me (friends for 15years) and his childhood friend (like brother) in Canada. I'm in Quebec and the other friend in Calgary.

My friend is from Egypt but lives in Australia and is an Australian PR since 2016. He is currently unemployed as he just got back from his home country after spending a year for familly and business matters.

He as a brother in australia but no property, nor spouse or kids. He's profession is licensed so he couldnt work here. He has enough to pay for his own expenses (over 10k$).

Over the last 13$ he traveled a LOT! Last summer he was in the US and also went to UK. He went to many places in Europ, Chili, China, etc...

Whats are the odds of having his TVR accepted? He might be unemployed, but he is a PR from a "friend" country and enforcing the fact he wont stay in Canada.

Or should he apply from his home country has his tighs there are stronger? (Sick dad, business, properties)

Thanks for your help!

It is difficult to say.

1. Being unemployed is a negative as it means he does not have any reasons to leave Canada.

2. Not sure what is the source of his finances or if he is dependent on someone else to pay for his travel and living expenses.

3. Not sure again how he is able to get visas and travel to the other countries.... nor the purpose of his visits to those countries.

4. He does not have other reasons to return to Australia (no dependent family, property ownership, no source of Australian finances, etc)

5. As he has not established ties to Australia since more than one year + he has been traveling to many other countries, IRCC could view this negatively in terms of his immigration status. Basically, his Australian PR status is only on paper, it does not help his TRV application.

6. Not sure what ties he can prove to Egypt. For example, can he prove he was managing the business for the year he stayed in Egypt? Who manages the business now that he has returned to Australia? Does he own the Egypt properties? Does his dad live with other family members?

7. The basic question is the purpose of his visit to Canada. Generally speaking, wanting to meet friends is not considered as a compelling reason to visit.

I would recommend he applies for a TRV 8-10 months after he is employed full-time + he establishes ties to Australia

@Bryanna Thanks for your quick respond!

1) sure. His reason to leave would be that he couldnt work in Canada anyway has it would requires for him to go through the licence processing again. He is an engineer.

2) He has savings and his 2nd job is trading (he also is a CFA) , but has it is something that can be done from anywhere, it wont help him.

3) He was travelling for work or leisure. He is highly educated and was giving courses or seminar.

4) true, beside the fact the weather is wayyyy better and he has his engineering licence there.

5) true, but he didnt travel for leisure. He went to the US to meet up with university professors in NY and LA. And to UK for a gathering from the university he attended. Probably 2 weeks total.

6) i guess he could... his dad runs a bit but isnt really in a shape to do so. He gave the power of attorney to his lawer... other than that, not sure. Dad lives with mom.

7) its funny though, Canada wants tourists, but if you wanna come to visit friends and visit the country, this isnt a good reason? Hahaha :)

He came to Canada before but for 2 3 days as it was for business while he already was in the US.

Anyway, as I thought

Pros: he has Australia PR
Cons: he is Egyptian, he is unemployesd, he is a young male (I imagine hes single since you didnt mention a family). Sounds like IRCC will deny him outright.

I'd wait until he's an Australian citizen and skip the pain of dealing with IRCC.

Alternatively...does the PR by ant chance eliminate the need for a Visa? I know that US Green Card holders can just roll into Canada without having to deal with visas.
