TRV fom within Canada transferred to NY!? Why?

Hi everyone,

I hold valid work permit until 2016 and because my visitor visa expired long time ago I applied for new TR visa to CPP Ottawa. I just want to go out of Canada, visit my family in Europe and come back.
Recently I received my passport back in the mail and letter saying in order to determine my admissibility to Canada, my application was transferred to NY and they will complete the processing. My passport has been returned to me in case I need to go to NY and have in-person interview and it is my responsibility to get USA visa.
My question is why do i need to go to NY to get my temporary resident visa if I am already in Canada? Have anyone had this situation before?
And what would happen if i leave Canada and not get Canadian visa, how I'm gonna return to Canada if work permit doesn't allow re-entry?

If anyone knows or have some thought on why they did this, please advise.

I hold closed work permit and I believe I have to apply for TRV in order to re-enter Canada. On my work permit it says at the bottom "Does not authorize re-entry" or something like that so you need TRV as well.

No, nothing yet! Something is very wrong here...
On the letter I received from Ottawa it says 'do not send any documents or correspondence with questions concerning the status of your application'. So I have no idea why or what is the status of my application.
And the fact that they've sent our apps to NY doesn't make sense to me. We are already in Canada, working with valid work permit so I don't see a reason why do I have to get US tourist visa now and go for an interview in NY, if needed. Thank God they haven't sent it to consulate in Australia and say if interview is needed you have to go to Australia. Why can't we do that in Canada since we are already here!?
The other thing is I need this TRV visa in order to leave Canada and come back again, that's the whole point of me applying. If they send us to NY for an interview and we leave Canada and from some reason not get TRV we are basically screwed. On work permit at the bottom says 'does not authorize re-entry'. In that case I'm not even going for that interview.
I am very confused with this decision. Please if you hear something from NY let me know here.

there are very good chances not approving your TRV, otherwise they woudn't have sent to to NY. My advise would be, do not go until you 100% sure you are geiing it and there is no problem. I have had my interview in 2000 for PR in skilled category, and Visa Oficer's there are very rude and not co-operative and very strict. So think twice before you guys move. best of luck.

You don't require a TRV for re-entering Canada from US. So as long as you are going for interview in NY and returning back without visiting any other country, you will be fine regardless of acceptance/rejection of TRV(you will need a valid work permit though).

I am in the same boat....i got a letter saying that my TRV application has been transferred from ottawa to los angeles and returned my passport back to me...i have no idea why this happened....i have all-ready booked my flight back home for 5 feb..........could u kindly share what is going to happen now......

Hi Bro, i am wondering if you have heard from the embassy in new york? This is ridiculous. The embassy doesn't reply emails . and when you call the phone number provided you can't speak to a human-being. what pains me most is the amount of money i have lost in changing the departure date of my flight ticket and finally cancelling it. How can they be so mean and heartless . please Update me of any new development so far

I feel your case is a bit confused. If you don;t mind, you can tell which citizenship you have.
1. In Canada, work permit indicates your legal status in Canada. If you work in Canada and you're not PR or Canadian, you must hold work permit.
2. TRV is a visa issued for people from those countries which require a visa to access Canada.
In my case, I'm Chinese and hold a valid work permit. Whatever it's closed WP or open WP, I have to apply a visa to access in Canada.
If you're European like French, Italian, Holland,Spanish,,,etc, you don't need a visa to access in Canada.

are you in NY now, how are you going to get back to Canada? I have advised not to go there unless 100% sure.
