I am seeking clarification.

I want to extend myTRV which expires next month. My work permit is valid up to the end of the year.

I visited CIC Website to obtain the relevant application package (Application to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada as a Worker) and the following comment confused me:

'If you are in Canada and need to extend your Work Permit and renew your Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), you may submit a separate application for the new TRV to the Case Processing Pilot Office in Ottawa (CPP-O) only after the extension of your Work Permit has been approved.'

Am I viewing the correct application package? Or am I to extend my work permit as well as my visa?

Thanks for you input.

Your work permit is just a document to prove that you are legally living in Canada. This one needs to always be up to date and renewed before expired or you will get in big trouble. On the other hand, if you are planning to leave Canada and come back, you need to have a valid TRV. You can still stay in the country if it expired but you need to renew it if you want re-entry. So if your work permit is expiring soon, renew it as soon as possible (like months prior to the expiry date) and if you are planning to leave Canada and come back than apply for your TRV as well. Which I would suggest you do now in case of emergency. They are taking forever to process applications cause of the strike going on.

(if your work permit ends December, they will give you a TRV till December, so you can apply to TRV with your current valid work permit or you can choose to extend the work permit and than apply for the TRV in case you want more days in your TRV"

I hope that helped. Best of luck
