Truncated name

Hi,

My name on the PR card and COPR was truncated. I want this to be corrected on Citizenship Record as I am applying for Citizenship. Thus in order to change this I must provide:

Passport of entry displaying your full name (the passport you used to immigrate to Canada); or
Canadian visa counterfoil, or
Birth certificate issued prior to your date of entry to Canada (date you immigrated to Canada).

Unfortunately, my passport that I used as the time of entry HAS FADED away significantly and photocopy of it is barely readable (as It was issued with handwtitten). However, all the TEMPORARY VISAS (including PR visa) issued to me earlier has my FULL NAME CORRECT (including I guess Student Authorization issued to me by CIC) and I can submit the clean copies of the same.

DO THESE VISA COPIES are acceptable as a "Canadian Visa Counterfoil"? as mentioned above? What is Canadian Visa counterfoil?

Please Note my Drivers's Liecence Copies, Health card and PRESENT passport has Full name (NOT truncated) and are clearly legible that I will be submitting anyways.

Thanks in advance.

unless absolutely necessary I would leave it, as quiet a few people who have requested a name change, has experienced added time to the processing of their application, or proof of name change being requested by cic to apply changes as requested by the applicant.

P.s Cic does have the correct name even if it appears shortened on documents

I prefer it to be changed to be CONSISTENT with my degree certificate and ALL OTHER Documents. If they do have the records of FULL NAME then why it should be a problem? It was truncated in the Immigration Document, its NOT even a MINOR change.

Thanks in advance.

There is nothing to be corrected if your PR and other visa were issued on your full name. You don't have to request for name change or correction, IF character limitations and truncation in systems of record was the reason to shorten your names on PR. (In all these cases, any names omitted due to space constraints is recorded as an AKA (alias) or other name and an explanation note is inserted into the client's file.)
I do still have some characters missing/shortened occasionally on some of my Govt. documents including PR but citizenship certificate, passport etc. were issued on my full name without any request, years back.

Donvalley,

Thanks for the reply. But question originates as follows In citizenship application. First question is

Provide your name AS EXACTLY IT APPEARS ON IMMIGRATION DOCUMENT which is truncated in my case.

Now Second Question is "Request for a different name to appear on certificate and please indicate/select reason below: (subject to approval by Citizenship and Immigration Canada)"

Here You can Give a Name you want (that is my Full name) and have OPTION selected as "Truncated (shortened) name on immigration document". This option is being provided by CIC.

NOW ALL My earlier temporary Visas, Passport of my Country etc. has full name. This is NOT a case of name change but requesting full name. If I DO NOT REQUEST FULL NAME ON APPLICATION, I AM CERTAIN TRUNCATED NAME WILL APPEAR ON CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION. As name is truncated by CIC itself, I am seeking advise regarding it on this forum.

I had a similar situation with my daughter... truncated name on the COPR but all other documents had full name (just applied for citizenship last month). This is what I did:
- Provide your name AS EXACTLY IT APPEARS ON IMMIGRATION DOCUMENT which is truncated in my case: I provided the truncated name
- Request for a different name to appear on certificate and please indicate/select reason below: I provided full name and for reason I selected truncated name.

Further, I wrote an explanatory letter to clarify why I'm requesting a name change and the documents I'm providing to support name change (passport, Immigrant or PR visa on the passport, Health Card, School records - Since you are adult, you can add Driver License). I think that should work... I'm still waiting to know the outcome

I am in a similar situation

My COPR/landing document has the name without surname and same was on my old PR card. I went through legal name change in canada and now my new PR card, passport, drivers license, sin card has full name including my surname.

I went through Instruction guide and this is what it states:

Section 3

Question 3A
Write your last name (surname/family name) and given name(s) exactly as they appear on your immigration document. If your name was shortened (truncated), write the name that appears in the “Remarks” section of your immigration document. The name in the “Remarks” section will have precedence over the name in the surname/family name section. Immigration documents include your:

Record of landing (IMM 1000)
Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292 or IMM 5688)
Permanent resident card (PR card)

So, when I filled the application section 3A, I filled my complete name including surname. I did not enter the name as on COPR because it has my old name. I entered my name as on my new PR card because it is also a immigration document as per the instruction guide mentioned above. As my PR' card's name has already changed, I thought to enter new name as per my new PR card.

Now I have attached my legal name change certificate's copy along with cover note stating about name change.

OPTION 2:
I could have also done the following but i thought that it is inappropriate to do so because I have already got my name on PR card changed and using old name as per COPR makes no sense:

3A Enter name as per COPR
3B Enter name as per new PR card/name change certificate.

I could have chosen OPTION 2 in case, my PR card had the old name and was never renewed with my new name . As I have already updated my PR card with new name and it is also a immigration document as per the instruction manual, I thought to enter my new PR card's name.

What do you guys suggest?

Hi future citizens, I have few questions for you !

1- If we checked a 3.B name truncated, do we need to check name change or birth date change on the Checklist !
2- I already photocopied passport and PR visa under the section of travel documents , do I need to make other copies as proof of truncated name !
3- Where in the COPR can I find if the truncated name was remarked or not !

Thanks for your reply, getting ready to send my application very shortly and will appreciate your help !
