I was invited to attend a business meeting for 3 days, mid-August in Canada. Just got my US passport Friday, but may have an inadmissibility problem due to a criminal record from 30 years ago. Was going to get a TRV in NY, but time is short, so if I apply now I may not get it done in time. I dont know if I can get a TRP or TRV at the NY consulate, the visa application center in NY, or do I just show up at the border and hope for the best? BTW, I cant seem to find anything on the application for the TRP. Thanks any and all for advice!

That's what I would do. Just be clear that you are not coming into Canada to "work" but to attend a "seminar".

As a US passport holder you are visa exempt, show up at the boarder and try to cross. The crimial record for 30 years ago might be a problem depending on what it was for.
