I have a valiud TRP, i would like to request a new TRP at the border before this one expires, and apply for an OWP at the same time.

Is this possible? Or would they only issue a TRP (IF they issue one and for a long enough duration), and i have to apply for an OWP by post? Could they issue me the OWP at the border as well?

How are you eligible for a OWP ? They are only issued in specific situations.

If you are American / US passport holder, then you can request a new TRP at the POE. Otherwise this is not possible to the best of my knowledge and you have to submit an actual application to IRCC.

Assuming you are American and they issue the TRP at the border, I don't know if they will also issue the OWP. I guess you can ask when you are there.

I'm not American, but I got my first TRP at the border. London VO have had a separate TRP application for over 2 years now and when I came in from the US and explained that the border officers were unimpressed with how long it was taking and gave me a TRP at the border, so it's possible to get one there.

Im only an hour from there, I'm going to head back before this one expires and ask for another since there is still no answer from London (4 months later), I just don't know if it's possible for them to issue me a work permit too or whether I'd have to send off for that :(

So the TRP from London VO did come in valid for over 2 years so thats great. I went to the border twice, once to get it activated and once again to apply for a work permit only. At the time i didnt have the LMIA exemption code for the work permit and i didnt realise quite how rare this work permit is, and the border couldnt find it. its Humanitarian reasons [R208 – H81 and H82] – International Mobility Program. Specifically [R208(b)], for reference. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/foreign-workers/humanitarian-reasons-r208.html

Its my own fault, i should have gone to the border prepared with LMIA code, i was so flustered and unprepared. Thats on me.

The first border was not pleasant, he was rude and made me feel like i was asking for the moon when i didnt even deserve dirt. Ive actively worked really hard to be an upstanding person and he made me feeI like a bottom of the barrel criminal. I left crying. The second time they were extremely sympathetic and incredibly nice about it, i really cant fault them at all but i still left empty handed. As i said, my own fault for not going in prepared, i had the documents, just not the code. Not their fault.

I ended up applying online through my GCKey account as per these instructions: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-5554-applying-remain-canada-temporary-resident-permit-holder.html

Its been 160 days and no answer yet. Happy to answer any further questions.

CBSA agents are not visa officers so yes they are not often not thrilled about having to be processing permits when they should/need to be dedicating their time to border security.

I understand that, being unable to work for a year (with a valid job offer thats just waiting for me) when my citizen husband is sick and also our only source of income makes me not thrilled as well. IRCC backlogs and excessive wait times affect all of us. I waited 2 and a half years for processing of my TRP. I didnt go in there and take it out on them or make them feel like shit when they couldnt help me with a work permit. I was applying for a permit within the hours of operation with an appointment which is a service they offer. No one is happy about it, but i still maintained a basic level fo respect for the human being in front of me.

No. You don’t get to play that card .

You had a DUI in Canada . You could have killed or seriously injured someone here as a foreign national.

No. You don’t get that card

Zero sympathy for foreign nationals here that break the law

Zero
Yep, drunk and in possesion of a car = DUI. Illegal yes, could i have killed someone? Unless they ran into my stationary car that i was sat in? Unlikely.
