Trouble Visiting Canada Again?

Hello!

I'm a UK citizen who works remotely. Last year I entered Canada (Vancouver) at the start of July to take advantage of Canada's willingness to let people work within their borders as long as they aren't paid in Canadian dollars or working for a Canadian company. At the time it was my intention to stay until the end of September before going to Costa Rica. This was what I told the immigration agent, and I had the outward flight booked.

However, I instead decided to stay the full six months allowed. This was mostly because I was thinking of trying to extend so I could do some skiing, but a slipped disc put paid to that idea, and I left on New Year's Eve.

I'd now love to go back for June, July, and August to enjoy the summer season. I'm a keen hiker, and I now have enough money to do some other activities. However, I'm wondering whether they might not look kindly on me returning so soon. I have a new passport now, but maybe they'll see how long I stayed last time and not want to let me in again, even if I can show that I have plenty of money saved up and coming in. I really want to book some tours early, but I don't know if that's a good idea since I might not even get in. On the other hand, maybe having those bookings would show that I was there as a tourist?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I will assume you didn't overstayed and that everything was in order.

They will most probably ask some extra questions, but as long as you have enough evidence on your savings and purpose of visit, I see no problem in returning.

Nope. Although I did stay absolutely as long as I could. I'm just worried they might either have noted that I stayed longer than the three months I said I would or that they'd find it fishy for me to return so soon.

That's fine, plans change all the time.

Also, is the fact that my business is registered in the UK (self-employed) prove my ties there?
A bit - but not nearly as much as if you were employed by a company and physically working in the UK.

In addition to the requirements you've stated above of not working for a Canadian company - make sure you have no Canadian customers / clients and do no work for Canadian companies of any kind.

I don't. I'll bring banking and PayPal statements to make sure they can verify that. All my clients are in the UK or the USA. Do you think I'll have any problems getting through? Also, would I be better to get those activities booked to help show I'm visiting as a tourist?

It's really impossible for any of us to say. Whether you end up having trouble or not is really up to the CBSA officer you encounter at the border. As long as you look like a tourist and don't look like someone who is going to try living in Canada - you should be OK.
