Hi everyone,
I landed in November with a 2 year old daughter. I am trying to register her for the child benefit online. It showed an error when I filled in my SIN. I didn't work after landing here in 2020.
Shall I go with the offline mode OR is there another way to register it?

Thanks and Regards,
Ravinder Singh

I believe you have to have filed tax once before you can register on the CRA website.

To receive the child benefit, you need to submit your income tax for 2020. Canadian Revenue Agency determines how much you receive based on your income.

It will show an error, as long as your CRA account is not created through your first Tax filing. Do that now, if you have your T4 through SimpleTax by yourself. If not get hold of a Tax Consultant and pay them some minimal amount and file it.

For Child benefit, they definitely need a tax assessment, but I have seen cases where some of them have got the benefit through their home country Tax Assessments. So, a Canadian NoA may not be required. Check with the CCB, may be this number will work (1-800-387-1193 ).

I am assuming you are Indian, based on your signature, so just show your previous year ITR to CCB.
