Travelling together while waiting for stage 2 approval (outland application)

Hello there, I'm a Canadian citizen and was approved to sponsor my Japanese common-law partner for Permanent Residency. We applied outland, though she is currently visiting me here in Canada. We'd like to go to Japan together for a month or so, then come back and continue waiting for stage 2 approval here in Canada. She's never had any trouble entering Canada before, but I'd like to check if anybody has ever been in a similar situation and had any problems.

Does me leaving Canada for a month affect the application process? Will she have trouble coming back to Canada with me since we're in the middle of the outland application process? It would be terribly inconvenient to get to customs on our way back to Canada and find out we've just reset or voided our application or some terrible thing like that!

Thanks for your time!

:)

You can leave Canada at anytime. Letting your wife back in the country will be a decision made solely by the CBSA officer, there is no rule here. I have been traveling around a lot since I filed my inland app, never had any issues, I do have a valid study permit and I'm also from a visa exempt country.

Yep, they can never deny you as you are a Canadian citizen, they can deny her though...She still has to have proof that shes not going to 'live/work" in Canada while shes staying with you...proof that she will go back to her country...Thats just it, you are app for her to STAY in Canada as a PR... So now her PR could be rejected, and she be in the country and not leave...issues officers have to take into consideration.

Shes not just a random visitor/tourist wanting to see the sites of Canada, she is a potential settler. Officers will either LIKE that you have a PR in process and understand your intentions or see the problems that could happen and she become a unwanted illegal.

So long as she has no over stays (aka visa for 6 months and she has been with you in Canada for over that) you should be ok...???

Others will chime in I am sure.

honestly I would stay in Canada ( I has been for last year and half in Canada for waiting my pr (outland)) unless there is family emergency.
you can travel after PR...

But if you must go
well she comes with you , you guys show enough evidence (financial) that she is not going to work to CBSA beside showing the proof of PR processing and return ticket.
Still there is chance that she might get rejected.

CBSA would concern that what she would do during her stay in Canada ( not working, studying...) and how she would get financially supported etc.

Usually people in her situation are let back into Canada with no problem. You should bring proof of the application - the receipt, the sponsorship approval if you got one, etc. She must be clear that she is just visiting you. You should bring proof of your job and housing - so you can assure the border agent that you can support her while she visits. If she has her own savings, she can bring proof of that too.
Probably the border agent will not ask to see all this, but it is good to have it just in case.
Many Americans who have applied for PR outland go back and forth across the border with the above types of evidence and have no problem. Japanese citizens are likewise not considered suspect of MOCs. There is a very slight chance she will not be let back in, but as I said, most people in the same situation have no problems.
If she is refused re-entry, her application will not be affected, as it is an outland application.

This puts my mind at ease, which is hard to do since I started this application process. Thank you, and thank you to everybody for your input! I will reply to this post when we come back to Canada and let you all know exactly how things go. Thanks again everybody!
