Hello everyone,
My husband wants to travel to US but his PR card has been expired. He has a travel document and a visa to travel to US. The reason he is not applying for another PR card is because he just wrote his Citizenship test so he might get that in a few months. I am wondering if we can travel to US with his travel document or not?

Thanks,
Sapna

What is the travel document you're referring to?

Let's separate this - can he travel to US? Sure, if the US will let him in (dont' know anything about that).

Can he come back to Canada? Without a PR card, almost certainly not by plane. With documentation to establish he is he (travel document) and his is a PR (expired PR card should work), yes, by foot or by taxi at land border. (It may be good to have info about citizenship app in process so that they know he is compliant with RO etc)

He has a Canadian travel document with US visa... if his PR was not expired yes we would be able to travel to US and back.. I am just not sure if he would be allowed back in with an expire PR.. and would his Canadian travel document be enough?

He is not an American. He is an Afghan

Repeat, don't know about USA.

For Canada: is this a refugee travel documnt? Is that still valid?

The PR card itself is not an issue IF returning at land border (on foot or private vehicle).

My question is only about the PR card... when I say Canadian travel Document then yes its a refugee travel document.. is there any other travel document other than passport? 2. If it wasn't valid I wouldn't be talking about it

Then I repeat: at land border, whatever your travel document plus expired PR card will be fine. (If citizenship has been submitted, info from that may be helpful).

To simplify a bit: by law they SHALL admit if satsified he is a PR. Above discussed docs should do so. They may be interested in residency obligation - sounds like no problem.
