So, I think I am getting close to get my PPR, I was just wondering, does one get a temporary visa or something when they land? Or if I wanted to travel abroad but hadn't received my PR card yet, would it be possible without having to get a Temporary Resident Visa or how would that work?

Thanks!

Dear betanorth

You said you are going to get PPR. Mean you will be traveling to Canada with PR visa. After landing with a PR Visa on your passport, you have wait up to 2- to 2-1/2 months to get your PR Card. After getting your PR Card you can visit any other country if you have a visa for that country. Otherwise you can return to your own country and then go back to Canada with the PR Card. You don't need any other temporary visa. Your visa to Canada is Permanent Resident visa.

If you have any more question, please ask.

Hi Wilson, thanks for the reply.
I am already in Canada, and was thinking in going back home for the holidays this year but was just wondering/planning ahead in case I get the PPR before that.
Also, for context, currently I have a work permit but no TRV.

:D Hi you did not explain your question before.
I suggest you don't travel out till you get the PR Visa. You will not get a TRV at this stage.

Yeah I guess I was missing some context on the original post. Thanks again! And one more question...

I am expecting to get the PPR November, and the trip would be in December. Would it be possible for me to not submit my passport until after I travel? Would that be a problem? How long do people usually have to submit their passport for stamping?

Depends. Perhaps one month or 45 days like that.

I hope you are aware of the following:

You leave Canada and then want to re‑enter

If you leave Canada after working here and then want to come back here to work, you must have a valid passport or travel document and a valid work permit.

If you are a citizen of a country that requires a temporary resident visa to travel to Canada, you must also have a valid entry visa to return, unless you are returning to Canada from the United States, Greenland or Saint-Pierre et Miquelon and the period initially authorized for your entry or any extension to it, as a visitor, student or worker has not expired.

Possession of these documents does not guarantee that you will be allowed back into Canada. You must show that you meet all the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations before you will be allowed to re-enter Canada.
