Traveling while waiting to apply for common law

Hey, first post on the forums. A lot of really good advice here. I did a search and didn't find anything that quite matched the info I was looking for. So I'll throw it out to you good people.

Starting this month, me and my Japanese girlfriend will be living together in Vancouver. We'll stay this way for a year, in which I'll sponsor her for permanent residency in Canada through common law. We are going to be right up against the 12 month mark. We have lots of supporting documents, as we have been together for three years roughly, and have lived in both Canada and Japan, been back and forth to see each other etc.

Here's the question though: can I travel for three weeks, or even one month during this time? I would still be paying rent on the apartment that we share together, as would she, but I'd be in the middle east on a backpacking trip. She'd stay here. Would this count as an interruption in our relationship, and be enough to sink the whole thing? I'v been planning this trip a long time, and don't want to see it fall through.

I know that some buisness travel is allowed, and part of my reason for going would be to do some stock photography, that I would then sell, through my photography company. How would this factor in?

Please respond!
Thanks,
Daniel.

I'm not talking about the time AFTER we submit the application. What I'm concerned about is before, while we are still accumulating time to get the to 1 year mark. Would taking three weeks out of the country affect that? Our preference was to apply inland when the time comes.

If your home is still your home, then you are still living together. You are only traveling.

So this would count only as a "short absence?" It's okay that its not going to be primarily for buisness or family, just mainly for pleasure?

Just re-assure me please. I need to know if I should cancel this trip or not.

If you are still paying rent, your home is still your home. I do not see at all why this would be an issue. It is a leisure trip and does not change your address of residence.
