Hello there.

I am looking for a job and my company bought another company in Orillia Ontario. Anyways, my plant manager here talked to the one there and I think I can transfer but the plant manager in Orillia wants me down there for a week class they are holding there August 15th.

When crossing the border do I just say I am there for a work sponsored training session? Will that be ok? Kind of worried but it really is for work...should I print the email of the plant manager asking me to go for the week session? He is also from the states and I'm thinking if I get a job before my PPR I can apply for a work permit due to holding specialized knowledge in some initiatives we are trying to start there. Pretty much my bosses boss who is stationed here in the USA owns both the plant I work in in the states and the one in Orillia.

Thanks for any advice

I know someone who was sent to Canada by his US employer to do a one or two day work project of some sort, and he was turned away at the border for not having a work permit. (And about 10 years later, having long forgotten about that, he was questioned for about 30 minutes at the border when he next came to Canada because he had forgotten he had once been denied entrance.)

That's the only situation I have heard of that is at all similar to this. (He did not have any PR applications in process though, so it was a more straight-forward situation.) Maybe others who have more knowledge of this type of thing will chime in?

I think he and his co-worker had come by car, but I am not completely sure. That was at least ten or maybe more years ago, so I guess things could have changed since then. Maybe you could ask your boss to look into the regulations and potential need for permits to travel for work purposes?
