Hi everybody

did someone in this group travel alone with conditional PR and can tell me how it went at the border?

I landed as a PR in May 2014. I just booked a flight to Germany for May 2015 to finally see my friends and family again (after over 2 years).
My common-law spouse can't come with me. His job only allows him to go on a vacation in December/January.

Just a few minutes ago I remembered the conditional PR requirements. I know that I'm allowed to leave for a short amount of time. Is 2 weeks short enough? Do I have to bring proof of cohabitation with me to show to CBSA? Should I contact CIC and asked them? I don't want to raise any red flags by contacting them. Officially, I have nothing to worry about because we have tons of proof that our relationship/cohabitation is genuine. But I don't know what to expect at the airport when I come back. This whole immigration thing still freaks me out ;-)

Hi

Don't worry. A 2 week holiday doesn't violate conditional PR. As for dealing with CBSA, I doubt that any CBSA officers are even really aware that conditional PR exists, let alone how to check/enforce it.

I wouldn't bother contacting CIC or carrying proof of cohabitation. You will have no trouble re-entering Canada.

Soon it's 25 October 2014, exactly 2 years since the conditional PR rule took effect. Any ideas how the CIC will enforce it? Do you think they'll start sending people a letter, asking for proofs of togetherness in the past 2 years? i.e: shared utility bills, joint bank account, photos, etc?

We won't know for sure what they will do until they start doing it. The Backgrounder states

As a result of the introduction of conditional permanent residence, additional investigations may be undertaken in cases where there is reason to believe that the condition is not being met or has not been met. CIC plans to perform random assessments of the overall level of compliance on an ongoing basis.

Sounds like they will consider checking former applicants who had various "red flags" but were approved anyway.
