Hey Folks,

I have done my landing and currently waiting for my PR card.
I need to go to US for some work.

I have a confusion on why can I not travel back (via Flight) to Canada while I am waiting for my PR card to arrive.
I have a valid visa from my Bridged work permit which is valid till Jan 2017.
Can i not use that visa to board a flight and travel back to Canada?

Thanks

Hey mate,

Once you land all your previous visas become void automatically. It's best to await your PR card. If it's urgent apply for a travel document.

Good luck,

My question also related to this - Can I apply Visitor US VISA when I am waiting for PR card??

Thanks! But i can still travel via private vehicle. Right?

It's hit and miss. If the officers want to give your headache they will. Again if I were you I would stay put till I get my PR card.

Best of luck,

For all I know you can apply for any kind of visa for any other country while you are waiting for your PR card. It's better if you apply after because you can give them a copy of your PR which strengthen your application documents. I've never seen anybody applying with a Canadian landing paper for a US visitor visa.

Best of luck,

Hey , Yes you can apply, once you land as a Permanent Resident, your status in Canada is a Permanent Resident, PR Card is only needed to re-enter canada if you leave Canada.
The landing document is a proof that you are a permanent resident, your application is equally strong as it would be with the PR Card.

Its same as if you have a work permit in Canada but your visa to re-enter canada is expired, you can still apply for US Visa as they dont care if you have a valid visa to go back to canada and all they care is what is your status in Canada, similarly, PR Card is like a visa to re-enter canada, your landing document is a proof of your status in Canada.

If you want to travel to US or any other country before getting PR Card, then you have to apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document from a Canadian visa office abroad as soon as you reach your destination.
But you can always travel after you get the PR Card, Im planning to apply for my wife's US Visa as soon as we complete our landing.
Good Luck !!!

I am not sure about that. When I applied US Visa at the interview the VO asked for my status in Canada, which I showed my work permit. For PRs they have to show PR card as the proof of visa status in Canada.

The proof of status is the landing paper until you get the PR Card, PR Card is like a visa needed when you come back to canada.

Lets say, you showed your work permit as proof of your status, for PR's the landing paper is same as proof of status.
Now when you want to come back to canada, the Canadian Officers will check both your work permit and your visa , and for PR holders, they check for PR Card which serves as a proof of status and a visa to re-enter canada. But to apply for US Visa you only need proof of status for which landing paper is enough if you dont have a PR Card Yet. There is no rejection based on that until you have valid landing papers.

Correct. US Embassy might not have defined PR card must be in place to prove PR status. In this case the landing paper should do. OP may not have valid WP now, then without PR card the OP may have to apply for travel document to travel back to Canada.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Correct, I drove to U.S. right after landing at the Rainbow bridge. CBSA only ask for you signed COPR when you come back in a private vehicle.

Your eligibility for a US visa will be based on your citizenship, not your PR status.
