Hi!

I'm a German citizen and my wife is Canadian. We both live in Germany right now but we would like to move to Canada to her family.

We are wondering if I am allowed to travel to Canada for Christmas even though our application for PR is in process? I've read in this forum that travel visa are normally not granted while PR is processing. Since I'm a German citizen I do not need a visa to enter Canada when traveling.

I just do not want to get any problems going through customs and in the worst case be denied entry. My wife and I are living in Germany and both are working full time. My wife is registered as a non resident of Canada. Of course we will have our flight back already booked when arriving. Will this be enough ties to Germany for customs to allow me to enter Canada even though my PR application is in process?

Thanks

I don't see any likelihood of you having any problems at all.

My wife visited me during the process (from the US). She brought with her the letter from CIC about my sponsorship approval. But all customs asked her for was a return ticket. Once she showed that, they let her through without any more questions.

No issue whatsoever.

I am not even sure if the Canadian Border officials will know or can tell if you have applied for Canadian PR , just by looking at your German PP or when they scan your German PP.

As long as you have a valid visa to enter Canada ..in your case you don't even need one ..you should be fine.

My wife is living with me here in Canada at the moment while her PR application is in progress. When we moved here from South Korea back in May I told the CBSA agent at the airport that she had a pending PR application. He asked to see her return ticket, which we provided. He gave her the usual 6 month visitor's visa. Then he gave us a speech about how she would have to leave or apply to extend her visitor's visa if her PR application wasn't complete in 6 months. That was it.

As long as you have that return ticket, I think you'll be fine

Thank you very much. Since I am pretty sure my PR is not going to be processed in 2-4 month we are safe to book flights for Christmas soon ;)
