Travel to Canada while awaiting a decision

Hi,

Bit of a strange question. I am a Canadian citizen by birth and my common law partner and I currently reside in the UK. Once we put a family class application in (from outside Canada), can we travel to Canada on holiday(assuming Canada reopes their borders to tourism) close to the date we expect our application to be approved? Will my parter have to leave when he receives PR and re-enter? We are currently trying to match house sales and finishing up work with the move and it's pretty complicated.

Anybody from the UK got a suggestion for short term rentals so that we can sell our house before we go? There must be an answer...

If your spouse doesn't need a visa or has one already, no problem. Quarantine rules apply. Borders are open for you as a citizen and spouse as your immediate family.

No, passport can be submitted in country and formalities as well.

My spouse doesn't have a visa. We live in the UK so any time we've visited Canada on holiday. I assume this would make a difference if we were in Canada when his application was approved as we are outland applicants? Thanks for the quick reply.

Is spouse UK citizen? That's what I meant by does not need visa. If spouse needs a tourist visa, would need to get one.

Otherwise didn't understand your question. If in Canada when pr approved, the rest can be done in-country.

As a Canadian you can start working any time in Canada.

If your spouse needs a TRV it can be very challenging to secure a TRV as the spouse of a Canadian citizen especially once sponsorship has started.

Does the eta count as a TRV?

No. The ETA is only for visa waiver countries (or individuals eligible for visa waivers).

TRV is a separate application and authorization process.

Note the only wrinkle for you is demonstrating / documenting that you are common law according to IRCC definition. Obviously it's a bit more complicated than showing a marriage certificate. Prepare in advance for this.

This will be needed at entry to Canada and may be needed to check in at airport too.

Obviously at root it's not much different than what IRCC asks for to sponsor PR as common law spouse.
