Travel to Canada but not process Landing?

Dear seniors,

I got a question regarding landing to Canada. I am still at the stage of waiting for my PR to be approved and not sure if everything go smooth and can get my passport and visa back by Sept. However, we plan to go to Canada for a trip at the end of Sept for 10 days, just for checking the cities around with my families.

Since we did not plan to do the landing process in such a short time from time, can we simply use our passport and enter Canada for travel (my passport is travel-visa waived) and not going to the immigration officer for landing process (if we already got the visa approved by that time)? This is because we wish to do official landing next year and prolong the period to stay outside Canada.

Also, what if the visa is still in process and we are at the stage of requesting to submit our passport during our trip? Can we inform CIC to extend the period to submit passport?

Please advise. Thanks!!!

No problem. You don't have to use your PR visa if you don't want to!

You would have to ask them whether they can extend the period to submit passport.

Thanks steaky for your prompt reply.

So do you mean even my visa is approved, I can just act normal and enter Canada using the passport for vacations but not process the landing till next year? We are so worried about that now and stuck in the middle and not dare to buy air ticket yet.

thanks!

My wife came up after she got her COPR but entered as a visitor because she was not ready to land yet. She stayed for a few days and then we went on vacation together abroad and when we came back to Canada, she did her official landing.

Thanks for your sharing. I hope this works for us, as we are not ready to land in such a short notice. Besides, it seems like the timeline for having the visa ready is so unpredictable now and no one knows when this can be completed.

It is actually fairly common. Many people come up before they want to officially land to look for places to live and check out schools for their children, etc. It is no big deal.

Just made sure you do land before your visa/COPR expires.

Thanks everyone. My agent also replied me today that it's fine to go travel but not land but I need to bring over my landing paper in case they asked about it. ^^

Hello friends,

Please clarify few points for this topic:
1) Let's assume that we have COPR and passport stamped for entry in Canada.
2) But we have actually planned landing after six months say doe to some reasons.
3) Can we apply for some independent travel document if we want to do some search of accommodation, schools, meet friends over there? Max stay would be a month say.
if possible please provide CIC web links...

Is it allowed ? We do not want any illegal stuff! and which type of travel document can be applied and used in such case?

Please guide. Or else we would land permanent landing with our COPR finally.

Thanks in advance.
