Travel/settling documents?

Hello all.

My father was born in Quesnel and I was born in England so from what I can gather from various sources there's a good chance I am already a Canadian citizen of sorts.

I am looking to live in Montreal for a year from next spring time but I'm not sure what I need to do so?

Can anyone tell me whether I need particular travel documents and what others will I need in order to get work while I am over. I currently only have a British passport. Would I need to apply for a Canadian?

I'm pretty clueless so any advice would be appreciated. Apologies if this is in the wrong thread.

Thanks for the reply. I've been told by others on this forum that getting a proof of citizenship form would be somewhat pointless because as it is not a travel document. Is there nothing I can get stamped on my British passport to show dual nationality like with the USA?

Proof of citizenship is not at all pointless in your circumstances. You want to prove your right to live and work in Canada, IIRC?

If it's a travel document you want, have a look at what's required to get a Canadian passport:

You'll need proof of citizenship to get one ...

(No there is nothing you can get "stamped in your British passport". No idea what US requirements are).

You can travel to Canada on a British passport; to work you'll need that poc, because if you're Canadian, you aren't entitled to a working visa.
