Hi,I'm worried about my application for travel document.I left Canada last February 2013 with my 3kids all are Canadian Citizen and me as PR but my card was expired.I already applied a travel document last July 2013 after a week they send me a letter that I have to send my t4 slips for 2010,2011,2012,bank statements, lease agreements, employment certificates etc. I send them the documents but the problem is I don't have my t4 slips for 2010 and 2011,but what I did was I send them an attestation letter from the employer stating that I worked there,i still have missing 2 more company/employer's attestation letter when I passed all the required documents they're asked me to send, now I have it in my hand i don't know if I can fax it or send it via courier to the Immigration/visa office like what i did before.I am trying to contact them but it's so hard to contact,I'm having a hard time and I don't know what to do.Another thing is I'm worried since I've heard they're refusing some applications for travel document. If I have low income and I have 3 kids does it also affect my application for travel document like it might be a reason for the refusal of my travel document and tell me that I can't support my family.Im really worried now coz if they're not going to issue me a travel document I don't know how can we survive here in the Philippines especially I have my kids with me here.Anybody knows if there's a big chance they can issue me a travel document because we're stucked here for 6 months?Another question is can I still apply for a pr card?and my friends or immediate family member in Canada can pick it up and send to me here in Philippines?please help...

They will not refuse your travel document because of low income. The only criteria is meeting the residency requirements.

If you apply for a PR card, you will most likely be asked to pick it up in person in which case you would still need a travel document to return so this will not help.

However, what you could do is try to get a visa to visit the US, go to the US-Canada border and cross the border in a private or rented car or on foot with your expired PR card. They will let you enter. The question is just if you can get a US visa.

I don't see how it will help your case that you have been stuck in the Philippines for 6 months because you did not apply for travel document until this month. Issuing a travel document can take a few weeks depending on the embassy so you will just have to wait your turn. If you wanted to leave sooner, you should have applied for the travel document in February already right after you arrived.

Thank you for your reply...for residency requirements or residency obligation issue I became a permanent resident last Sept 2004 and my card was expired last 2009,I went home (Philippines) 2009 only for 3 months before my card got expired I went back to Canada and from that year until February 2013 was my first time to leave Canada again,so if we're going to count the days from that date or year i was in Canada lets say starting from year 2010until February 2013 I think I accumulated the more than 1095 days.but I was thinking how are they going to compute the days I was present if it's should be like the same thing I've thought or are they going to start from 2010-February 2013(until the date I'm present)? One more thing is,is the calculation will start from January 2010-December2010 and then January 2011-December2011 then January 2012-December 2012?is it like that?Another question is if ever I didn't meet the residency requirements/obligations since I have my kids with me outside Canada do you think,it's a plus points that they might consider me through Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds?Thank you!

I am confused. If you renewed your card in 2009 and they are valid for 5 years, how is it expired again now? I think you should have a valid PR card until 2014 at least. Or are you saying you came back in 2009 with an almost expired PR card and did not bother to renew it for 4 years and then decided to leave the country again?

When you applied for the travel document, like the instructions on the travel document say, they look at the 5 year period before you applied for the travel document so July 2008 until July 2013. They want at least 730 days in Canada in that period and it sounds like you have way more than that already.

If ever you don't meet the residency requirements, having Canadian citizen children will not help. Immigration would just say that if you chose not to live in Canada and lost your PR, too bad for you and the kids can come to Canada when they are grown.

Thank you for that info!Yes,since 2009 I didn't renew my pr card...If residency requirements is the main criteria for issuing a travel document it sounds like my application will be fine and I'm just hoping that everything is fine and hope that I will not going to encounter any problem.Maybe I just get nervous when I've heard and read some situations and stories that encounter problems like refusal.Ive thought it is not that hard to apply for a travel document.Thinking of those experiences of some other applicants makes me worried that it might happen to me also. This situation of mine teaches me a lot and I'm still praying that I will get my travel document soon.Thank You!
