Hello,

we were thinking of buying health insurance for my girlfriend on her next trip to Canada (QC).
If you have any suggestions or experiences with the following companies we found out on kanetix.ca, please share with us :)

TIC travel insurance
Travel Underwriters
Travel Insurance RSA
Blue Cross

we want to avoid paying for hidden stuff written in fine prints. Currently, the Blue Cross one is the cheapest (roughly twice as cheap), but we think it's a bit strange!

thanks!

Hi!

What you need is a visitors to Canada policy. Each company on your list will have similar coverage which includes hospitalization, repatriation and medical care.

The premium you pay depends on many factors, including the size of the company, benefits provided etc. Since your priority is medical care coverage, any of those companies will do. TIC and Travel Underwriters will have some extra features such as pregnancy coverage + cover on your flight to Canada. Don't recall any advantages of RSA though. Blue Cross most likely has fewer benefits than TIC or TU hence the lower prices.

There is 6 more companies that you can take a look at, some of them more affordable than Blue Cross with decent benefits.

thanks for the links!

I was also wondering (for family class sponsorship), since these insurances cover only emergencies, if we have to undergo a medical check with a CIC panel physician (after 12 months), and we plan to do that in Canada, will it cost us up over 1000$ or something since she won't have insurance to enter the hospital, or it will still cost something around 150$ ?

thanks!

Well, Visitors to Canada insurance is an Emergency-Only medical insurance policy that does not cover regular check ups or clinic/doctor visits. Medical examination is considered a regular check up as and, therefore, not covered.

In fact, visitors to Canada insurance is needed for those who wants to ensure that in case something unexpected happens there will be no troubles going to the hospital or visiting a clinic with whatever they might have as a result of unfortunate circumstances.

You may take a look at what is included in such insurance Visitors to Canada Insurance Quotes and choose a company from the list provided.

Private travel insurance does NOT cover CIC panel physician exam for PR medical.

The cost we paid for PR medical (in Toronto area) was around $160 for everything. It's nowhere close to $1000.
