Hello there,

I have a quick question that will most likely be easily answered.

Firstly, my wife will land in Canada as a Permanent Resident very soon. Her and I will be leaving the country before she receives her Permanent Resident Card. I know that we can apply for travel docs ($50, and must be applied for outside of country), but I also think I read somewhere that if she re-enters Canada by car, she can just show her Permanent Residence Approval Papers (or whatever it is called). Is this correct?

Thanks in advance.

It depends... if your wife is from a visa-exempt country, then she can travel in and out without the PR card. If she is not from a visa-exempt country, it might be more tricky... I suppose that she could drive to the border and show everything, but I would give a call to CBSA to check... and you might always find a border officer that is not happy that day and refuses to let you in because she doesn't have the travel documents...

For visa exempt, it's OK because you can show your passport, and then when they check your name, they can see that you have a PR, and it doesn't create troubles. For non-visa exempt, I'm not sure.
Good luck,

Yes, if she enters Canada from US in car, then COPR is enough to enter. Or you can ask someone to post her PR card to your address abroad if that person has access to your mailbox.
