hi all

I need some good advice and hope you can help:

I am a Permanent resident of Canada - living in the UK ( with my Hubby (Canadian Citizen))
PR requirements have been met (accompanying Canadian abroad)
I called CIC and asked how to return to Canada as we are emigrating back to canada now :)
they advised to apply for Travel Document in London.
Is this really needed for UK passport holder? ( as original PR application was made with Brazilian Passport) and now obtained UK citizenship.

I want to know if it is definitely needed and is wise to get the Travel Document? - (Do they often reject TD applications?)

And please can anyone help provide a list of documents to send in to the embassy?

Kind regards
:)

If you have a visa exempt passport, then travel back on that. If asked at the border, let them know you were accompanying a citizen spouse abroad and are now returning. You can show them your expired PR card if asked. Tell them this is the first opportunity you have had to return to Canada to apply for a renewal card.

You shouldn't have too much trouble at all.

Would you believe that i have actually never applied for a PR card as we have been living in various places around the world.

Does that change the game?

It shouldn't, but be aware that if you filed for sponsorship outland and your husband was not residing in Canada at the time, you likely had to send supporting documents stating that your hubby and yourself would reside in Canada after your receipt of your PR visa. If that is the case, you could find they will scrutinize you more closely, but since you are still a PR at the end of the day, they will admit you.

thanks for the reply - I applied for INLAND with my husband present together for landed immigrant status and after a few months left to the UK
but have been traveling back to Canada every year.

what sort of documents should i have to show that we are together for the years that have been outside Canada?

do you have any suggestion anyone?

I recall this being covered in some detail across several posts you raised on your PR. See in particular page 2 response by Canuck_in_uk. Also go to CIC page and check the PR Card renewal forms. So where did you actually land as a PR since you seem to have started off with inland sponsorship? Who issued you the COPR was it London CHC or a Local CIC Office?

No need to apply for the PRTD which will be issued but why bother. Enter Canada with your UK passport and explain your situation at the POE. Once in country apply for a PR Card. Your dual nationality issue on its own is irrelevant to CBSA/ CIC in regards to PRTD or PR Card issuance but they will want to see copies of all pages/ bio data pages of your passports for PR Card renewal or Citizenship application as the case maybe.

If you did an INLAND application and you landed in Canada, how did you never receive a PR card? They send in the application for you and what not from your landing and you get your card in the mail a couple months or so later. Perhaps I am missing a detail here or something, I dunno. Anyway, the 'intent' part of my previous statement is not an issue here as you were not required to fulfill the 'intent to reside in Canada' portion of the PR application.

As for kinds of documents? I would think anything that has mail addressed to both of you, bank statements, a statement from your landlord anything of that nature will assist you with getting your PR card and proving your case. I don't think you will necessarily need it to gain entry, but it never hurts to be prepared for these scenarios.

Good luck!
