Hi All,

We (husband and wife) are from india but working in US. We have a newly approved PR application and wish to make our permanent move from US to Canada in April, 2011. However, we would like to just stay there for note more than 15 days (to complete the car import) and then take a really long vacation of about 2 months to India and then travel to Canada directly from India. Since when we travel we would not have our PR cards in hand, where and when do we apply for a travel document? Can we do it from US and still use it to travel from India? Can we do it now even before having landed in Canada?
I read in some posting people having been rejected a travel document for not staying 2/5 yrs. I guess it won't be applicable to us, what do you people think, can we be assured of receiving one?
The other option would be to have the PR card mailed out to us in India. My question is, If we have a PR card, then we don't need anything else to enter from outside Canada?
Would there be any problems for taking a long vacation of 2 months immediately after first landing?

Thanks in advance.

1. You can't apply until you are a PR.
2. So either mailed from Canada to India or get a TD in New Delhi.
3. No, vacations are not an issue.

One more question...

Is it better to tell the immigration officer upon first arrival that we plan to take a 2 month vacation after 15 days? Would he hold on to the PR card until next entry? If yes, would they give us something so we can enter next time, or we still need the TD? If we tell them our intentions clearly do we stand a better chance to get a TD. I read somewhere the TD had been rejected for someone (not having met the 2 year obligation) that's why a little worried.
Thanks again.

No, just give him/her the address for mailing the PR card. Don't complicate things. If you are only going for a 2 month vacation after landing, you don't lose your PR.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
As long as you are still able to meet the residency requirements, you should be able to get a travel document. That is, you can not be outside Canada for more than 3 years total You should not cut it close, apply for the travel document in good time so you can still arrive in Canada with enough time to meet the residency requirements.
