Travel Back to Canada With an Expired PR Card?

I want to travel for a brief training in the U.S and come back to Canada after I am done. BUT, I have an expired PR card. Can I use the PR renewal payment receipt, job offer in Canada and Confirmation of Permanent Resident document as proof when I return at the border?

I intend to return by land and not by air.

After completion of approx 760 days of residency I will submit the renewal application next month. On May 3rd I need to go to US for 2 months for some essential family matters. My PR Card will expire on 14 May. My return date will be on 5 July by road on private car to cross the boarder at Niagara Falls.

My question also is :

Will my COPR copy and proof of renewal application submitted will be sufficient to re-enter Canada.?

You may use the CoPR for entry once you are on Canadian soil. Depending on your nationality, your challenge may be boarding the plane as the airline will need to be convinced you have any required docs to enter Canada (and they can't assess a CoPR). So, if you are not from a visa exempt country, expect the commercial carrier to request a valid PR Card (or other travel document).

If you return by land you'd be fine with the CoPR alone as the CBSA Officers can assess it upon your arrival.

Note that given that you have applied for PR card renewal, I'm assuming you've met your minimum stay in Canada to retain PR status (2 out of 5 years unless you qualify for an exception). It may be worth taking a copy of your application to show this to the Officer, should they have questions when you try to enter.

However I have a similar problem to you. My PR card will expire April 9th, but I haven't stayed the required days to apply for citizenship or renewal. I would like to know if I will have problems entering the country and won't be able to enter Canada again. Also, if I can't get in, will the Canadian Embassy in my country allow me to get at least a visa so that i can visit the country from time to time.. ? PLEASE HELP ME! IT'S URGENT!

If you try to come back to Canada before your PR card expires, you will be allowed to enter the country. That is guaranteed. The problem is if CBSA suspects you don't have enough days to meet your residency obligation to keep PR status and decides to report you. If that happens, they will investigate and potentially strip you of your PR status. But while they do this, you can enter and stay in Canada until you lose your status.

It's not like you will be barred from entering Canada again. You can go apply for a visa like you would before you were a PR.

It is not for sure that you will be reported by CBSA. They may just let you in if you are not overly suspicious. Then you can live in Canada and accumulate enough days so you can renew your PR card.
