Hi all,

I'm currently in the US on F1- OPT(Master of Science) and will begin full-time employment the next month.
I've previous worked in my home country as a Data Analyst for 1.5 years (1 year full-time and 1 year part-time)
I've even interned full time as a Data Analyst in the US for 8 months and Part-time for 4 months.

I'm now planning to apply for express entry and wanted to know if I stand a chance to be selected in the express entry pool
And also how early should one begin if he/she plans to move within the next 8-10 months.

Check your eligibility by going to his tool and see if you qualify

To your second question, the entire process AFTER submitting the PR application takes 6 months or less. But before submitting the application, you will need to create the EE (express entry) profile. In order to create the profile, you'll need to get your degree/diplomas evaluated by an affiliated educational assessment service provider like WES, and take IELTS general training test in order to actually create the express entry profile.

So check your eligibility. Once you are eligible to apply, take IELTS and assess your diploma, create the profile to be in the pool. Wait for the invitation and work on your PR application once invited

Use this tool to see how many points you will have http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp

On average they are trying to get applications processed within 6 months, however this does not always happen. If you have not already taken the language tests or requested to have your education credentials evaluated, I'm not sure planning to move within the next 8-10 months is realistic. On average it takes about a month to have your degree evaluated, plus you'll have to register to take the IELTS. The FBI background check is taking months as well to have processed.

Thanks a lot,

I plan to take IELTS in the next month and based on my TOEFL conversion I'm assuming that I can score a 7.5 on each section.

What bothers me as of now is if my work experience is good enough to keep up with others in the pool.

Thanks again

I was in the exact situation you are in (MS + 2.5 years of experience on OPT). I didn't make the H1-B lottery twice. I'd recommend working for year on OPT.

That should give you, depending on your IELTS score, 450-470 points. If you have questions, feel free to send me a PM.
