I'm confused about certain parts of the process of gaining PR status, and was hoping someone could advise me. I took a job in Fredericton, NB (at UNB) and moved here in January. My employer obtained an LMO from HRSDC in order for me to take the job, and I am on a two-year work permit. The job itself is a probationary four-year tenure-track position. My wife and I have intended all along to make this a permanent move, so I am attempting to go the NB Provincial Nominee route.
My main concern at the moment is the issue of settlement funds. While my salary supports us well, it would be very difficult to come up with the required amount for a family of four, which I gather is approaching $20K. So I wonder:
(1) Am I correct in understanding that the only time settlement funds are waived is when one has an AEO?
(2) If that is the case, would it be possible for my employer to apply for an AEO at this late date, when I have already been in the position for nearly nine months?
(3) Will getting an AEO be hampered by the fact that this is technically a probationary position?
Thanks for any and all advice!
