I am travelling to India from USA (valid visa not GC) with my Kid (11yr) via toronto airport (term1) in less than 15 days. I had applied for my transit visa but today I got message that I need to send passport to New york.
Can anyone tell me why this happened and now if I send passport when will it be back ?
Pl help .

Thanks in advance.

You must submit your passport to the NY VAC/CSC for visa stamping. It could take about 10-15 business days.

You must follow the instructions carefully for submission of passport and payment of the fees. Instructions are here:
http://www.csc-cvac.com/en-US/selfservice/cvac_application_processing_times
Thanks for replying.
10-15 days is surely long time.
My travel is in next 15days.
I had read that once online application is submitted transit visa is done in minutes. But this is not true in my case....

No, that does not apply to your case. What you're referring to is an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization). As an Indian passport holder, you are not eligible for an eTA..... and you need a visa to transit through Canada.

Your only options are to either re-book your flights to a later date (so that you get your visa stamped in your passport).... or to fly directly from the US to India (there are several flights)

Thanks again, one last hope I have , website says:
  1. travel through one of these Canadian airports:
    • Calgary International Airport
    • Toronto Pearson International Airport, Terminal 1 only
      • if you are flying through Terminal 3, or need to change terminals between flights, you are not eligible for the Transit Without Visa Program or
    • Vancouver International Airport
  2. not leave the Canadian airport during your stopover, except to board your flight.
My flight lands and leaves after 4 hours from terminal 1. DO I STILL NEED A TRANSIT VISA ?

The TWOV program does not apply to Indian passport holders.

This link lists the applicant nationalities + airlines which are eligible for the TWOV program:

Yes, you still need a transit visa. No other workaround this.

Fortunately, you have been approved for a transit visa (in principle) and you must submit your passport for visa stamping

Thanks again, I would be mailing my passport asap. And if I understand correct the minor child doesnt need to apply for transit visa if I have proper documentation with me.

1. If your child is an Indian citizen, he requires a transit visa as well.
