Transit visa for H1b holder flying to Paris thru Canada

Hi

Me and my wife are flying thru Air Canada to Paris thru a connecting flight in Toronto(5 hr layover both way). Atlanta-Toronto-Paris- Toronto- Atlanta

I read that as a Indian citizen I need a transit visa. I am on H1b with valid stamp in passport and same as my wife on H4 valid stamp in currently in Atlanta , GA USA

Our son is US citizen so we believe he is fine.

Now when applying for transit visa online, eTA check is coming back saying we are eligible for eTA (Though I read Indian citizens are not eligible for eTA but probably as we select currently living country as USA it is coming as allowed)

So we would like to check here if we can really apply for eTA. We cant go wrong as we would be making all reservation in Paris(though still need to apply for a visa with consulate of France)

Also should we apply Schengen visa first and then apply for eTA . Travel is in august 2018 . I wish I had not booked thru Canada

Indian passport holders who are not green card holders/US PRs need a Canadian transit visa and do not qualify to apply for an ETA.

Not sure but is possible you need a transit visa for both outbound and return, so x2

Ok so I got confused with eTA and applying transit visa online.

I was able to get reference number and document checklist to apply for transit visa online. They are saying I am eligible to apply transit visa online
