7 months in advance. It took 3 months last time to get a final decision. I just want to apply as early as possible since I do not know how long it will take this time. Does it have any disadvantages?
I think it's OK, but don't expect a decision anytime soon. Here is a response from IRCC to someone who applied in June:
...our current efforts are focused on processing cases that are travelling soon. According to your email, and your file in our system, your travel date is on January 30th, 2023

Sorry for the delayed reply. Gosh 3 months to get a final decision. Once you get a final decision, then you need to book appointment in VFS and visit it on your scheduled appointment date and time. What VFS Ahmedabad told me is - it will take a minimum of 15 days to get the passport stamped (and 12 days with Premium service) since they'd need to send it to IRCC in Bangalore for stamping (some are sent to Delhi and some to Chandigarh IRCC). Hopefully with 7 months advance time, you should be able to get it. But why do you transit via Canada? The reviews of Toronto airport aren't that great either.

In my case, I had to change my travel plans.

Sorry for the delayed reply since I was travelling. Once your transit visa is approved, you need to schedule an appointment with VFS. When i went to VFS Ahmedabad, they said it will take a minimum of 15 days to get the passport stamped (and 12 days with Premium service) since they'd need to send it to IRCC in Bangalore for stamping (some are sent to Delhi and some to Chandigarh IRCC). So I didn't submit passport and changed my travel plans. Hopefully this gives you an idea. But from what I've heard, Canada is super super slow. So, it's very good that you've applied in advance. But there are some terrible reviews of Toronto airport. Is there a reason you are transiting through Toronto?
