Hello!
My wife is in Canada with visitor status (and a current visitor record), and we're waiting for her permanent residency application to go through. (We're down to the last leg of that, though, which is great!)
Anyway, I know visitors are not allowed to work or to enroll at educational institutions, and this is stated on the VR as well. However, we were wondering: is it okay for her to take a workshop-type thing? There's a college here that offers small training sessions of 6 - 8 classes (1 - 2 hours long each) over the course of a month or two, and they teach little things like basic woodworking, beginner's language courses, introduction to various computer programs, etc.
These are all short-term training sessions and don't provide a certificate or anything at the end. Basically, they're just for you to personally better your skill set or try a new thing.
Would it be acceptable for my wife to attend something like that? I know the big thing with volunteering, etc., is that you can't be taking prime opportunities (IE: limited internships) away from Canadians, but these types of classes are basically never full and actually state that you should enroll sooner rather than later to prevent cancellations due to lack of numbers, haha.
We absolutely don't want to be doing anything that's not okay for a visitor to do, but it would be so nice if she could attend some stuff like this in order to feel like she's still learning and making progress while she can't work.
Yea or nay? Is it okay for her to go?
