I am curious about this scenario in light of the long PR card processing time. What do you think would happen if a new permanent resident who doesn't need a visa to enter Canada or has a study/work visa sticker in their passport left Canada and returned by plane not carrying the PR card? Wouldn't the border officer eventually let them in by examining the proof of landing?

once you get your PR, old visas are taken from you and your current status is voided.
After March 15, people from visa exempt countries will need an ETA to come to Canada. You cannot apply for an ETA if you have PR. So will need a PR travel document to come back if you don't have the PR card.

Really?! :o Although not so great for guys out west, would definitely help if we got our PR around April/May as we have a trip to NY planned in July so might get our cards before we go. Planning on landing at Pearson if we get the elusive PPR email after May though.

you will get more idea in 2 months time. so wait till you get your ppr. :)

they've started requesting updated photos from people. They changed the specs and a load of people need to resubmit the PR photos and start waiting all over again. Balls!

thats not good.

they should use same photo from our COPR.....

so if they request photo it will take more days....

I just checked it, the specs is 50x70 as per the new photograph standards that I received during my PPR. I think they are requesting for new photos of earlier applicants whose photos are in older format of different size. I think it will not affect applicants who have given photos are per new standards.
