Tourist Visa Requirements

Hi Guys,

I just created an account in CIC for my friend. I just have a bit of confusion regarding their requirements for the tourist visa. The following are the requirements:

1. IMM 5257 - Application for Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) Made Outside of Canada (Form)

2. TRAVEL HISTORY - Did you just scan the previous and recent passports with entry and exit stamp from different countries you had travelled? Do we still need to create a list of travel history for this?

3. Scan copy of Passport
4. Invitation Letter address to the embassy
5. Proof of Financial Support

6. DIGITAL PHOTO - Do we still need to upload a photo when we are already paying for the biometrics fee which is worth $85? I am just confused about this, as we have to pay for the biometrics fee.

7. PURPOSE OF TRAVEL - Is this where my friend's letter to the embassy will be uploaded together with the travel itineraries?

8. PROOF OF RELATIONSHIP - I am really confused on this part, I really thought that the invitation letter is enough as proof of relationship. I don't know what information I need to put in this section. Do I need to write another letter? What should information should I provide? I am only inviting a friend to come here to Canada.


I really need your input on this one guys. All comments and suggestions are highly valuable pieces of information.

Yes, you should. No need to create a list. The form IMM5257b-1 will ask you to declare it.

Yes, you have to.

if you mean the invitation letter of you then yes.
if you mean the explanation letter of your friend then it should be submitted on the Client Information.

For travel history, yes, I was referring to the letter from my friend, not my invitation letter. There is a section for the invitation letter to be uploaded. Thank you for clarifying this to me.

Now I just need to gather all the documents.

Anyhow, do we still need to notarize our invitation letter? I hade read from the other post that they notarized it. Would it be okay the invitation letter is not notarized?.

As far as I know, you should notarize the invitation letter so that the Immigration Officer knows that it was truly written by you. But you should also notice the legitimate purpose of the invitation and the importance of your friend's presents due to the reason you used to invite him to Canada.
However, I have seen some cases that the invitation letter just has the signature of the host (attached with the host passport) but still got approved.
