Wait till he is legally separated from his wife, and has the paperwork to prove it, than apply.

Scenario: You do not want your papers to be processed by a VO who is going through marriage difficulties or a divorce. Because the VO he or she will take the view you are a home breaker and they will try their best to refuse you application.

Sorry for any negatives but I shoot from the hip!

I'm not sure why he would ask you to fill out all the forms and paperwork. He's inviting you he should take the initiative.I had a lawyer make my fiance's invitation letter and review her application. That way no information was missed. I arranged everything for my fiance while she was in Indonesia and all she had to do was send the application and then go for an interview. This worked for us and the visa officer approved her TRV.

The above statement is rubbish, ignore it.

You can "visit Canada to see your friend", there is nothing illegal or immoral in this, certainly not in Canada.

What country are you applying from?
