Hi,

I am trying to apply for a tourist visa for canada . I am not using any travel agent for the 2 week trip.

I am married with a kid but will be going alone this time as I don't have leaves rest of the year and wife/kid have school. I have a good travel history going with family since 2006 and have visited UK, France, Italy, US, UAE and Singapore. I also have good financial background with a flat in Mumbai, bank balance, good job in investment bank as a VP.

What are my chances to get an approval keeping in mind I am traveling alone on leisure trip?

1. Did you visit these other countries on your own or with your family?

2. Were these visits to the other countries in the last 10 years?

3. Do you have a valid US visa?

4. Your application must answer the question: Why Canada and not another country? And, it would seem rather unimaginative if you want to visit just to see the Niagara Falls (in case that's the plan)

Visited Singapore and UAE with family in last 2 years. Took wife to US on a business trip in 2010 and 2012. Rest trips were alone on business.

2. Were these visits to the other countries in the last 10 years?
Yes, all since 2009 apart from ones in UK during 2007-2008

3. Do you have a valid US visa?
It expired in 2016

I have shown a 12 day itenary of various places I want to visit. Should I mention why canada and not any other country in cover letter? They could ask the same question even if I go with family

Unfortunately, Singapore and the UAE don't count as travel history. Your UK visits don't help too as it was more than 10 years ago.

You should prepare a Travel History explanation in a tabular format: scan these visas (including the US, UK visas) + entry/exit dates + purpose of each visit.

Your visits to other visa-required countries were on business. That's why you should submit adequate evidence that you intend to visit for sightseeing/tourism and it is not actually a business visit.

1. It might help if you have a relative/immediate family member that could invite you instead of applying as a tourist.

2. Any possibility of getting a US visa?

I dont have a family member in canada nor I am planning to apply for US visa.

In fact, my h1b visa was approved in 2016 but was later denied during consulate interview stamping. I am going to mention this in my canada visa application as it asks for any denials.
Will this hurt my chances?

Also, will it be better if I apply with my wife and son although they won't travel with me later? But I will waste the money spent on their visa.

I am really worried as to what to do.

Quite honestly, it would seem unusual that you want to visit Canada for sightseeing/tourism.

It depends on why you were refused. Yes, you must declare this US refusal because Canada-US share immigration data.... and IRCC would know about your H1B refusal anyway.

Do you really have a valid, genuine reason to visit Canada as a tourist considering there is literally a world of other countries that you can visit (and visas are far easier to be granted)?

It would be pointless to apply with your family if they don't intend to travel with you. Besides, it is always best to be honest when you interact with IRCC.

You can certainly apply alone. Do make sure you submit adequate evidence of your strong ties to your home country + a good financial situation + the Travel History explanation + a detailed day-by-day visit plan with expense estimates (provisional flight and hotel bookings.... don't pay for these bookings, it does not help for visas)

Thank you so much for giving me your time to advice me.

Just one final question:
Will a visa application for me, my wife and son make my case more simpler and convincing for getting a tourist visa for all of us v/s me applying alone?

Each application will be assessed separately for its individual merits. In case your wife and/or son do not have convincing reasons to return to your home country then it could affect your application

Bryanna,
I filed for all 3 of us (me, wife and kid) and went for biometrics last week. Today, i got the rejection letter stating reason as "purpose of the visit".
I am really surpised at the outcome. All documents were in place - in fact i had provided more than required in terms of assets.
i am a VP with a big US investment bank in India and software engineer by profession with high income, self owned property, income tax filings, bank statement. Cover letter and itenary was also given along with entire passport scanned with 10 day travel history to US, UK, Europe, Singapore, Uae.

Only things i can think of are:
I have a valid Express Entry profile in Canada (for getting a ITA),
My h1b was approved by uscis but later denied during consular interview due to employer project issues.

I genuinely wanted to visit canada for a family leisure trip for 12 days.

can you pls advice what went wrong ? i would like to reapply. pls let me know what i need to do so that i gets approved this time.

thanks,
sumit

Sorry to know that you and your family were refused.

Purpose of visit refusal makes sense because you have not visited visa-required countries earlier for family vacations + you don't have relatives/family in Canada. Basically, the question 'Why Canada?' was not answered.

No impact of your EE profile on your TRV refusal.

My h1b was approved by uscis but later denied during consular interview due to employer project issues.
This could have impacted your refusal. BTW when was your H1B visa refused? What exactly was the reason for that refusal?

1. Do post the individual list of documents that each applicant had submitted.

2. Your ties: Property ownership? Employment ties? Dependent family members apart from your wife and kid? Financial investments? Any compelling reasons to return home after a short visit?
