hello everyone...
i have a nice question here... i already sent my sponsorship application to be proccesed in dec 2009 it was sponsorship approved on 11 jan .... AOr letter hasnt arrive yet .. im being processed in Bogta Colombia. I check to the processing times on interned oficial website and it takes for a spousal visa from 10 months to 17 months according to those times. my husband cannot leave canada because of a commitmet he did with his company.. and im terrible worried to no see him that long times...
I called the other day to a migration consultant and he told me that applying to a tourist visa o student visa is a mistake cause is going to increase the time line in my application and even can make cause it to be denied....
is this true?
has anyone applied for a tourist or student after first stage approval and suffer this horrible consequences as he says...????
i understand that canada process each application independently of other things being processed...
please help

I am not an expert, so I hope someone else will respond....but I am surprised to hear that an application for a temporary visa would have adverse consequences for your permanent res application. I have seen this question asked before and don't remember hearing this. I think that usually the advice is that you can apply but you probably won't get it because immigration will not believe that you will return to your country,

I have read reports of a couple of people who applied for temporary visas while their pr visa was in process and they were actually immediately given their PR's (not sure if the reports were on this site) In fact those reports inspired me to inquire at the embassy (not an application, just an email explaining our situation and asking whether a temp visa would be possible) when our PR application was taking longer than I expected and the result was that we got the PR visa immediately. Our application had been in process much longer than yours has though.

If I were you I would write to the embassy or submit an application for temporary residence with an explanation of your situation...that your spouse cannot leave Canada and include whatever arguments you can that will convince immigration that you will return to Colombia. I could be wrong, but I think the worst that will happen is that they will deny your request and you will lose your application fee.
