Hello friends,

Being new to Toronto I've been wondering about this lately. What is the correct taxi etiquette? Sitting at the back or front?

I personally prefer front as I think it is more, well, egalitarian but I noticed someone sit at the back and now I am confused. I know these things differ from country to country.

What are your thoughts? Any Uber drivers in here? If yes, what do you prefer?

1. Most drivers want you in the back. Note the shields between the front and back seats.

Makes sense. Although I have never seen a cab with a shield myself, I've only seen those in movies.

I did my research and I found that it's safer for both the driver and passenger if the passenger sits at the back but some drivers prefer if people sit at the front.

I think the normal convention is to sit in the back. Whenever using regular taxis, I sit in the back, however if using Uber, I normally sit in the front.

Sitting in the back is the convention. Note though that from a legal point of view you as the passenger have the right to choose any seat you want (except the driver's seat of course :) )
But yeah, I would say that 99% of people sit in the back unless there is four passengers.
