While I have a Bachelor's degree in Finance (on the list), my Master's degree is in Telecommunications (not on the list) and my work experience over the past thirteen years has been in technical support in Distance Education (also not on the list). I have been teaching Telecommunications at a community college but only part-time. I have a strong background in a decent paying profession, yet it looks as though my services are not needed in the country I'd like to make home. I'm also 48 years old so don't have much time to fool around. Looks as though I need to find a career in Finance right now and work at it for at least a year and then apply. Any advice to the "highly educated but not on the list" group?
Absolutely. That would be the way to go.eduardoF said:juergens,
if your part-time teaching experience adds to 1 year full time equivalent, you're in: * 4131 College and Other Vocational Instructors
Why don't you check Quebec program? It quite resembles FSW program, the only thing you need then is French.juergens said:Any advice to the "highly educated but not on the list" group?
If you can show that you are doing a college instructors job even though that is not your official job title, it's absolutely worth a try.rupeshhari said:Leon - please can you advise me on whether I can apply under college instructors (its a long stretch). I am currently a teaching assistant. My title is graduate teaching assistant but unlike other teaching assistants in my department, I have more responsibilities which has some similaritiies to college instructors.
My take on it is that they are trying to fix the system for the benefit of Canada as well as the new applicants. Canada needs people in the 38 occupations. Currently they are getting lost in the crowd. When you need 1 of the 38 but they are waiting up to 6 years to immigrate sitting in the queue somewhere after all the people that Canada doesn't need that badly. Canada is waiting for them for longer and they are getting tired and giving up on the wait and maybe immigrating somewhere else in the meantime. Now they will be brought over faster while the people that are not needed that badly will either have to find another way to immigrate or prove that Canada needs them too by getting an AEO. I don't think they will cut the number of people going in, they just want to make sure that the people taking the spaces on that boat are the people who are needed in Canada.adnan_hsn said:I'm really looking forward to having some comments on this recent development. Doesn't it look like the Conservatives are just trying to limit foreigners from their country by announcing such a limited list of occupations (in Canada they are known as a very white party and not much liked by the immigrants living over there for their harshness). And I'm still not convinced if this so-called reform policy will make the old applicants' queue any shorter any sooner.
that is what I am trying to say - everyone can get on the site now & calculate his chancesadnan_hsn said:By the way has anybody noticed that all the immigration application forms on the CIC website have changed too?
even if it is a private employer?Leon said:Yes, references from former employers will work.
