Looks like its getting somewhere finally. The weather is horrible today and prediction for the weekend isnt too good either. But as this long awaited news has come, who will have time to care about the weather. Curiosity is likely to kill some senses for a few days.

For those who have seen all the details of the news on CIC's website:

Do you really think they have 'reformed' the immigration system? What I have understood so far is that they have just announced a list of occupations, with no solid plan to help reduce the backlog of those applicants who applied before 27th Feb. Comments?

They have reformed it only for those who've applied after feb 27. The backlog will eventually go down but if they are processing the new faster applications at the same time as the old applications, I think they will need to add some staff.

only the List, what will happen to others, if you are not in this list, that means your immigration to Canada is dead.

Re: Tories set to announce details of sweeping immigration reforms

It looks like you can still apply as a skilled worker if you have an AEO.

Re: Tories set to announce details of sweeping immigration reforms

please correct me if im wrong :

"Federal skilled worker applications submitted on or after February 27, 2008, and that meet the following criteria shall be placed into processing immediately upon receipt:
# Applications submitted by foreign nationals who have been residing legally in Canada for at least one year as temporary foreign workers or international students; or
# Applications from skilled workers with evidence of experience[note 1] under one or more of the following National Occupational Classification categories:

* 0111 Financial Managers
* 0213 Computer and Information Systems Managers
* 0311 Managers in Health Care
* 0631 Restaurant and Food Service Managers
* 0632 Accommodation Service Managers
* 0711 Construction Managers

so this means those who are in Canada legally and applied in Buffalo for PR are process faster even though they do not fall under the 38 occupations??? regular PR application with out LMO or AEO.....???

Re: Tories set to announce details of sweeping immigration reforms

Yes, that is what they are saying. If you are already in Canada and apply for FSW, the list of 38 does not apply, same as when you apply from outside of Canada but have an AEO, see

1. According to the Minister’s instructions, your application is eligible for processing if:

* you have an offer of arranged employment, OR
* you are a foreign national who has been living legally in Canada for one year as a temporary foreign worker or an international student, OR
* you are a skilled worker who has at least one year of experience in one or more of the occupations listed here.
