Hello! Any advice appreciated!

- Canadian born citizen with Dominican spouse
- Together for over a year
- Refused TRV twice once a month ago and once yesterday
- Not married yet but plan to get married sometime this month
- After marriage sending applications
- I live with him and his family in the Dominican Republic
- We have proof of our genuine love: photos, chats, birthday cards, letters, and phone bills.

- Will they think it's a marriage of convenience because every thing happens so close together?
- And will my living in DR make it hard to get approved as a sponsor?

- When he gets PR card we will live with my mom and I will start working and school in Sep.2011
- I put my app. for the school but they don't review apps until November 2010 but they said they can give me a receipt and something that says they have my app.

- My mom could write a letter saying that we will live there and she will support us until we get a job?
- Would we have to get that letter notarized or what?

Thanks!!!

I do not know. Only visa officers can decide if it's a marriage of convenience.

As you are Canadian citizen, you can sponsor your spouse/partner outside Canada, even in DR
- When he gets PR card we will live with my mom and I will start working and school in Sep.2011
- I put my app. for the school but they don't review apps until November 2010 but they said they can give me a receipt and something that says they have my app.

I don't think there is any need for that letter for your sponsorship because there is no income requirement of sponsoring partner/spouse
- Would we have to get that letter notarized or what?

Thanks!!!

I know that there's no minimum income but aren't they going to want to know how I intend to support us?

Even so, you don't need your mom to write the letter. On a separate piece of paper, you write your the explanations yourself as supporting document and mail the whole thing (with application forms and other supporting) to CIC. You don't need to notarize your explanations.

a letter from your mom would help in the section where they ask you to prove your plans to return to Canada. as a Canadian citizen, you can apply living outside Canada. but you have to prove you will move back when your spouse gets approved. so I included a letter from my parents stating they know about our plans, they will let us live with them and help us get settled when we move there. I didn't have any job offer and didn't show any plans of how I would support us. I was approved last month to sponsor my husband.

as for the "marriage of convenience" -- if it's a genuine relationship, then you shuold have plenty of proof to show that it's real...photos of activites you have done together over time, letters from friends and family saying they know about your relationship and have witnessed it, plane tickets or tickets to events you have attended together, notes, emails, letters, etc. Start gathering this information now because it takes a while to get together. find anything and everything from Day 1 of your relationship to show how your got together and got to where you are now. tell the truth and there should be no reason to reject you.

My advice is to get the package of forms for your country and start reading them over as many times as you can. there is tons of information in there, but it can be confusing. Use the checklists to build your application. And start now researching Doctors for the medical exam and requirements for the police certificates, these usually take the longest to obtain.

good luck!

It makes me feel so much better to hear that, I feel a lot more confident now! :)
And your letter did you parents just sign it? or get it notarized? or did you parents give some bank statements or anything?
If you could give let me know how you did it, it would be awesome!

Thanks!

Here is the Operations Manual that the Immigration Officer will follow when processing applications..if you are not sure about how water tight your relationship may seem to somebody else its always a good idea to have a good read...

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english//resources/manuals/op/op02-eng.pdf

Many people that apply for PR apply after only being together for 1 year and get approved..what was the reason for the TRV being declined?
I agree with campesinaj get your mum to write the letter and get the ball rolling on the application..

Well the first time the reasons were: insufficient funds, travel history, purpose and length
and the second time were: still insufficient funds (even thought we had 700 canadian and my moms invitation letter), travel history, and purpose of trip

I think the TRV's might be a problem because we didn't put the purpose as he was going to meet my family before our marriage we just put tourism because there was no way we would get it if they knew he had a Canadian girlfriend. But my mom wrote on the invitation letter that I was accompanying him. Also he has his an American tourist visa good for another year and he's been to New York and Puerto Rico but he lost that passport and in his new passport he has stamps from a cruise. The whole thing just confuses me.

Is your Husband Employed in Dominican Republic? When CIC process an application for any temporary Visa there are a few things they look for..the main one is whether the applicant is likely to leave after the have entered Canada! I am inclined to think that its his TRV in the US that is still valid that is the major road block! Not to worry but he may be seen as a security risk! Did he have to include a police certificate? If people travel a lot then they are seen as suspicious.

As for not having a job..you can sponsor your spouse from Dominican Republic and there is no minimum Income requirement however you must be able to satisfy CIC that you are going to work and live in Canada..as you have to sign an "undertaking" where you agree to support your spouse for 3 years from the date of receiving PR you really need to have a job before PR is issued! Your mums letter will help you however you as the sponsor need to show you will be employed so you need to find employment in Canada as soon as you can really!

Wow! I never thought of the US visa being a negative thing!
And we were able to get a friend that owns a business to say that he was employed for him for a month before the second application but on the first application he didn't have work. He was in school but we both dropped out classes thinking it would be no problem to go home to Canada.
And he didn't have to provide a police certificate for the TRV
Do you think all this stuff will negatively affect the sponsorship?

I know that eventually I will have employment however, the whole point of us doing this process is to be together (I have to go home to start saving up for college soon, I will hopefully be starting in September 2011). I just want to find a way to do this that I don't have to leave DR without him. It's the worst feeling saying bye at the airport and going home knowing that it's going to be mics and webcams for awhile :(

It is a very hard situation and most of us on here have been through it at some point in our relationships..I spent 6 months back home in the UK without my Husband in 2008..it was the longest 6 months of my life!! But I am now back in Canada and have applied for PR outland whilst my Husband is supporting me..

You need to look at the bigger picture..if you return to Canada, find employment to enable yourself to qualify for to sponsor your boyfriend and apply for his PR the time you spend apart may be painful but in 1 year from now when you can spend the rest of your life together without having to worry about Visas etc it will all be worth it! Where is the Visa office for the Dominican Republic?

We've been apart for most of the year we've been together 2 weeks the first trip a month for christmas and new years and then this time I've been here for 3 months, so the majority of our relationship has been apart. It sucks that our spouses can't just come and be with us!
I think what I'll do is apply from here and if I don't get accepted as a sponsor, then I'll go back to Canada and get a job and such. Do you know how long you have to wait to apply again if the sponsors not approved? And what do you think of this plan?
Thanks a million for all the advice by the way I really appreciate it!
