I have to leave Canada next month as I was offered a job from the Middle East. Presently, I'm on PR status and my application for grant of citizenship is 'In Process'.
A friend commented on this forum that........
If you leave Canada for more than 2 month you have to inform your local office in writing / phone call. if you leave
for overseas job assignment in middle east that could lead a RQ and might delay till 24-30 months. In addition, CIC doesn't t entertain a PR of Canada going abroad for a job for extended period unless it is a Canadian affiliation.

Plz. clarify, to what extent the said information is accurate?????

As I do not have a personal experience in this regard ,will try to reproduce here what I have heard and read about it.

Well you are correct previously people have been doing this and may be due to this reason govt. is introducing bill C-24 .If you do not inform CIC about your departure ,you might not face any issue initially , however at the time of test ,you need to take all your passports with you . So at that time , when an officer sees the ME work visa in your passport ,it MIGHT be difficult for you to satisfy him/her regarding your future intentions of permanently living in Canada , after getting the citizenship and he/she COULD issue an RQ which could delay your application .

To former experiences of people on the Forum...
Moving without citizenship is not a good idea...and in the case your PR card expires before receiving the Citizenship you shall be in a pickle.
CIC doesnt entertain PRs leaving Canada for job assignements unless they are linked to Canadian interests (Govt jobs etc...)
This situation could trigger a RQ and possibly open a whole lot of can of worms...

Best to remain put in Canada until you get your Grant.

Can I go back to my home country for a year or so? I mean to say, instead of going to Middle East, Can I go back to my home country? Are there any problems with that?

I've been out of my country for almost 12 years. I want to take a break from the UK or Canadian life style.


Will I still get an RQ if I go back to my home country and come back at the time of test????

Did you already apply? if your file is in process it's better to wait,I understand you very well,I didn't see my family for more than 10 years,I lived in Europe before coming to Canada ,and I am waiting to get my citizenship then go to see them.

I think to avoid getting any RQ it is a good idea to make sure there no gap in your application, my friend got RQ because she was unemployed most of the time, no study record in Canada, no job, nothing, she is rich so doesn't need to work, how they can make sure she has been here all these days.

but if you came here and you were busy always with work or study, and attach all the evidence you will not receive RQ 99%.

My two cents: nothing in the current citizenship act says that you cannot leave Canada and go work abroad while your application is in process. However, it appears that CIC resents those who do, and since they cannot legally deny their application, often they try to make their life harder by giving them a RQ and extending processing times in hopes that they will fail to comply with their PR requirements (you can only be abroad for 3 out of 5 years). Hence the reason they are trying to change the law and introduce an intent to reside clause.

The main takeaway here is that you have the law by your side. CIC may not like it, but as long as you meet the requirements, they cannot legally deny your application.
