Hello everyone!
I am student (F-1 status, no visa in a passport) in the USA, planning to visit Canada. I got multi-entry tourist visa, it means I can cross the boundary with Canada. After vacation in Canada, to re-enter the USA do I need USA student visa or I can show my F-1 status, college I.D. , transcript and letter of my adviser to come back to USA. I do not want to stuck in Canada. Some human beings told me, it all depends on post of entry and officer. If he wants a hamburger, he will let me in. If he does not want a hamburger so badly, he probably will not allow me to cross boundary with USA. So, I am in doubt. I am not big gambler. Please, give any advice where can I find any information about this issue. Thank you!

This is the best I could find for now:

http://www.columbia.edu/cu/isso/visa/F-1/F-1_travel.html

But it mentions an F1 visa which you mentioned you don't have on your passport. Anyway, hope you find something that can help you.

I have an original SEVIS I-20 form endorsed within the past 12 months by your student adviser and proof of registration for the current term and I-797A. So, can these documents work out???

Although you are legally in the country, you need a visa to re-enter the country upon departing. I don't know if the same applies to the American Embassy in Canada, but I know several students in your situation that have crossed into Mexico to obtain their F-1 visa stamped on their passport so that they could travel in and out of the country during study breaks.
