To apply or not to apply? That is the question.

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well amidst these crazy times. We have just submitted our PR + OWP app inland and now have one or two concerns.
My partner has been here a year on a visitor visa and it runs out on May 25th. I know she will get implied status as we have applied for the OWP before her visa runs out but now upon doing some research, we are seeing ppl being refused their OWPs and going out of status.

Should we apply for a visitor visa record(extension)? The reason is that while we do have sufficient proof of our cohabitation, I am concerned that one piece of proof might get us stuck. The building we live in wouldn't list my partner as a tenant as she wasn't present when I got the apartment. Therefore she is only considered an occupant and not a tenant. They gave us a letter stating this but it's the only piece of proof I am uneasy about.

Anyway, I have been seeing mixed reports here about whether or not to get an extension. Ppl who spoke to agents at IRCC were advised not to, but I see many people here saying the opposite. Any clarity on this would be great.

There is no harm to apply for an extension to be on a safer side not to go out of status I would do the same if it was me,
Am also gathering and filling up my spousal application I have some qns if you don't mind me asking

Are you living together if yes how long have you been cohabiting ( living together)? Give the period(s) you have been living together after your conjugal relationship started
My qn is am cohabiting with my husband for 8months now and where they ask give the periods you have been living together do I write when I landed in canada Canada or include even the times he came visiting me in my country

Being listed as an occupant is fine, as it still shows she lives there.

Applying for a visitor extension is a good idea as a back-up in case your PR and/or OWP app is returned.

I would apply for an extension. My husband was advised NOT to when we rang IRCC and it turns out this was not good advice and have since discovered that IRCC call centre agents are not to be trusted and to take everything they say with a grain of salt. My husband now has implied status because he sent an OWP in but it's been over 5 months and no OWP and no explanation as to what is going on. We are regretting not applying for his extension. It's good to have as a backup incase your OWP app is returned (missing a signature or documents etc.) or the unlikely scenario your PR app is sent back further down the line because if you still have status in this case you can easily resubmit documents and still be fine.

No he did not. I believe dependants would be for example: children under 18, an elderly parent if your were the caregiver, etc.
