I recently, spoke to an immigration lawyer and he offered some general advice. I thought I would share this with the forum, since I hadn't seen them mentioned too frequently at the forum.

* Don't assume that everything is easy and straightforward as they mention in the website. Express Entry can often be glitchy and drop documents. It helps to take a defensive position and put in extra due diligence.
* Document every step of your application and take screenshots. This will help you in a rebuttal phase.
* Check and Double check every document/ detail.
* Don't be shy in writing a letter of explanation for nearly everything. This will make the important details of your application stand out and also give confidence to the immigration official that you have done your homework.

thank you,

did he gave you any example for putting in extra due diligence?

I am looking around for recommendations on good immigration lawyers preferably in the GTA. Can you tell me which lawyer did you speak to or have come across?

Great tips, sadly there are quite few things I have to learn the hard way.

Just add on to that, make sure you read through the CIC Guide XXXX for your corresponding application, do not read too literally and trust only for whatever in the "blue question mark" next to each EE profile question, make sure you understand everything correctly to the letter, do not make any assumption, otherwise you would very likely throw out 5 months of your precious time.

thanks, do you mean that the online help is more credible than the application guide?

Another super helpful item (albeit time consuming) is this list - http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/reasons-for-rejection-t306713.0.html

The number of strange corner cases that people encounter is shocking. I definitely prevented atleast one mistake by reading some of it i.e. I was going to download an online statement from my bank as POF. Apparently that's not enough, you need to goto the bank and ask you to write you a letter.

I won't say "more credible" per se, but the Guide packed much detailed information and give much more guidance than the EE profile notes. Just find the correct guide and follow it to the letter, you won't miss a thing.
