This is good news for 2 reasons: 1) All 14K applicants will have a fair shot 2) This would also humble these local couriers who have been thumping their chests since last few days and salivating on the prospects of making a fortune at the expense of people's emotions next year.

Yep, this is great. Hopefully all couriers will be banned next year and they approve Canada Post only.

Guys...Any update from anyone regarding CC charged...for apps that were sent through Puralator 9:43 AM on 4th Jan? Can you kindly keep us posted?

I doubt there will be anything moving over the weekend.

"The Liberals have budgeted an additional $25 million to reduce application processing times in 2016-17, followed by an additional $50 million a year for the next three years."

Looks like they are coming around

10k seems more reasonable, 5k was too small a number compared to the number of sponsors.
CIC needs to increase staff to process these applications in a timely manner (including overseas visa offices).

Still surprised why they have not moved on to bar-coded forms for ALL required forms. It would make data-entry faster and make it more efficient and error-free too.

What do you mean "Old" the current one is IMM 5669 (12-2012 ) E

IMM5669 is the form code, (12-2012 ) is the version E is English.

So ?

The current form available in the site was modified by CIC but the date was retained as Dec. 2012 and hence many including me, has used the one available before modification.

"We've kept the first 10,000 — so those 10,000 will be up and running," McCallum told host Rosemary Barton.

"So we are certainly honouring that commitment."

5000 cap, while small, is still reasonable so that it allows CIC to catch up and remove the backlog of PGP applications. Once the backlog has been removed, only then 10K is reasonable so long as it doesn't create any backlog. If 10K end up creating a backlog, that means, 10K is too much for CIC to handle.

It could have been worst. PGP could have been shut down until all the backlog has been removed before reopening it. But that is a little cruel so reopening pgp with a 5000 cap is a reasonable compromise that will allow CIC to catch up on the old applications while allowing some pgp applications to continue to come in.

Long processing time for parents/grandparents is not due to how long it takes to actually process the app. It's to do with how many apps CIC was receiving, and what their quota was for visas each year. Quotas are needed for PGP due to the higher demand they will put on healthcare and social services vs typical spousal or foreign worker apps.

CIC approved PGP apps (based on open.canada.ca data) of approx:
2010 - 8,000
2011 - 8,000
2012 - 18,000
2013 - 13,000
2014 - 10,000

Figuring each app has average of 2 people, you can see how many PR visas were actually issued, compared to the 20K+ apps they used to get every year.

Processing times going forward will depend entirely on how many visas they intend to issue going forward vs the cap. After the backlog is cleared, if they dont keep the issuing at approx 20,000 visas per year (based on 10,000 apps cap), then the backlog will just continue to grow again.
