Timing of marriage on ODSP

Hello,
I am currently on ODSP and have been for almost a year. My boyfriend is planning on coming here in just over a month and we plan to get married. Then the plan is for him to go back to Holland and work for a few months to continue saving for his immigration so he has money to live off of til his work permit comes.

My question is, if we marry in August but he doesn't actually live with me until early next year do I report the marriage to ODSP in August or when he is actually living with Me?

I've read some scary stories about people on ODSP being removed from it because they are married and also stories of folks who aren't allowed in the country because their spouse is on ODSP. Yet I also hear that one can sponsor a spouse while on ODSP.

It's all terribly confusing. At first I thought it would be ok to sponsor my soon to be husband but now I'm scared that we will marry and then have some trouble.

Please help.

Hi

You need to report the marriage to ODSP when it actually happens. You also need to change your status with CRA.

You can sponsor while on disability. You need to show a solid plan on how you will support yourselves.

You need to show IRCC that you and your spouse can support yourselves without welfare, excluding your disability.
